On September 12, 2020, the G20 Agriculture and Water Ministers met to discuss the COVID-19 response and its related challenges of food security, responsible agriculture investment, and “sustainable and resilient water management.” This latest meeting, part of the ongoing G20 Dialogue on Water as well as the first joint meeting of the G20 Agriculture and Water Ministers, also involved representatives from the members of the G20, who discussed ways to strengthen and safeguard food supply chains, support responsible investments in the agricultural and food sectors, food loss prevention tactics, and best practices for supporting sustainable and inclusive growth in these sectors. The Ministers’ discussion on ensuring access to drinking water, adequate sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) also highlighted the role of WASH in combating the diseases like COVID-19, by preventing outbreaks in the agricultural supply chain and also reducing the spread of disease between individuals through good WASH practices.
