In June 2022, the Saudi Government announced that it was dropping indoor mask mandates and vaccination requirements for most public places.
Individuals will still be required to wear masks in the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, places regulated by the Saudi Public Health Authority (Weqaya), and other places and events that impose their own mask mandates.
Proof of vaccination in the Tawakkalna app is no longer needed to enter various facilities (including stadiums, as announced by the Ministry of Sports), participate in activities, attend events, or board planes or public transportation (with a few, unnamed exceptions according to the Saudi Press Agency).
Saudi citizens travelling abroad will have an extended vaccination timeframe: previously they needed a booster shot within three months of their second dose, but now that timeframe is eight months.
These loosened restrictions follow those announced in March 2022, when the government dropped outdoor mask mandates, social distancing measures, PCR tests for inbound travelers, and quarantine-on-arrival rules.
