The renowned physicist, bestselling author, and television presenter, Professor Michio Kaku, recently visited NEOM’s flagship project THE LINE in Saudi Arabia to learn how the futuristic linear city is being developed. In a new film titled “Placemakers,” Dr. Kaku and NEOM urban planning experts discuss how THE LINE’s innovative zero-cars, zero-streets, zero-emissions design aims to solve traditional urban problems and serve as a model for sustainable and livable cities of the future. Kaku believes THE LINE represents a new template for urban development that can inspire other cities and nations.
“Placemakers” delves into the development of THE LINE and includes insights from Professor Kaku and the experts involved in building the futuristic city. In the film, Dr. Kaku praised THE LINE’s potential to address common urban challenges such as traffic, pollution, inequality, and overcrowding. He emphasized that THE LINE could be a sustainable and livable city, representing the future of human civilization.
THE LINE is described as a cognitive city spanning 170 kilometers, stretching from NEOM’s mountains to the Red Sea, featuring a unique architectural design that is narrow and tall, maximizing land efficiency. The project aims to redefine the concept of urban development and set a new standard for the cities of the future. The ambitious 170km mirrored megastructure is slated to redefine urban planning when completed over the next decade.
