Ramadan, the holiest month in Islam, began this year on March 1 after the first official sighting of the crescent moon. Muslims around the world, including in Saudi Arabia, fast from sunrise to sunset for 30 days, embracing traditions involving Iftar, events, gatherings, decorations, and clothing that make Ramadan the most anticipated month of the year. The month concludes with Eid al-Fitr, a joyous three-day celebration expected to start around March 30 or March 31 depending on the sighting of the new moon. Translating to “festival of breaking the fast,” Eid brings a return to daytime meals, usual activities, and often travel, highlighting the sense of renewal and community that defines this festive time.
