July 2, 2019 – Backer Hughes, a GE company, has formed a joint venture with Saudi Aramco that will manufacture non-metallic materials including plastic, carbon fiber, and glass fiber. Non-metallic materials have applications across numerous industries such as the oil and gas industry as well as the, construction, automotive, packaging, and renewable energy industries. The joint venture will initially focus on the manufacturing of non-metallic reinforced thermoplastic pipes. The project is part of Saudi Aramco’s strategy to expand its use of non-metals in its operations, with over 3,100 miles of non-metallic pipes already deployed.
