April 2, 2019 – Saudi Aramco has awarded Houston-based KBR, Inc. with a contract to provide supercritical solvent desphalting technology for its refinery near Riyadh city. The technology will utilize the Residuum Oil Supercritical Extraction process (ROSE) to separate oils and other compounds from residues created during the refining process. This process requires up to 60 percent less energy than other technologies. In addition to providing the technology license, KBR, Inc. will provide basic engineering design and proprietary equipment.
