The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre’s (KAPSARC) headquarters in the outskirts of Riyadh has received LEED Platinum status by the U.S. Green Building Council. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, KAPSARC’s campus consists of an energy computer center, energy knowledge center, conference center, research library, and a prayer room. The eco-friendly building utilizes solar panels and wind-catchers to reduce energy use and was partially constructed using recycled material. This is the first project designed by Zaha Hadid Architects to receive this distinction.
