Development of the downstream specialty chemical industry is a priority in Saudi Arabia. To facilitate the sector’s development, the Kingdom is making strategic investments in and with international firms to accelerate the cluster’s growth.

The chemicals sector is already a mega sector in Saudi Arabia. The focus of the chemical cluster now is to develop more downstream products in targeted value chains to fill the gaps in industries such as electronics, aircraft, automotive, agrochemicals, water and wastewater treatment, oil & gas, healthcare, packaging, construction, and pharmaceuticals. Opportunities exist for manufacturers of specialty chemicals large or small, mature or emerging technologies as well as makers of process equipment, management solutions, or other support functions for the cluster.

The specialty chemicals market in Saudi Arabia and the neighboring GCC countries was approximately $22 billion in 2020 and is expected to grow to $32 billion by 2027. Saudi Arabia accounts for 71% of this market.
