Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) recently began accepting licensing applications for firms operating within the military industrial sector. In explaining the licensing process, GAMI developed a comprehensive “investor’s guide” document in Arabic and will release an English version in the near future. The Council has reviewed the Arabic document and has provided the below executive summary.
GAMI’s investor guide serves as a reference for investors in the military industries sector to learn about the general regulations, rules and procedures for obtaining permits and licenses pertaining to the following fields:
- Military industries manufacturing
- Providing military services
- Import of military products and/or services
Licenses for both military industries manufacturing and providing military services require an initial “establishment permit”, however no such permit is needed to import military products and/or services.
Issued by GAMI, the establishment permit allows manufacturing applicants to begin the process of obtaining the required licenses and the establishment of a facility. This is similarly the case with providers of military services, with the addition of allowing permit holders to submit bids for government tenders as it applies to military industries.
